This is a formal exploration of shape materials, and composition.
This has led to a larger scale project using similar techniques.

I've been working on creating an individual box for each kept item.
the boxes all have an interior space that is 6 in by 6 in and are 3 inches deep.
The idea is that the item is dipped into wax which acts as a preservative and a coating and then place inside the box.
In my first mock up of the box i have burned a hindu mantra 'om shanti shanti shanti'
in hindu philosophy 'om' is the sound of creation and the universe and 'shanti' translates from sanskrit into 'peace'
After closing the box with the mantra facing inside the lid will be nailed shut.
This is another way of letting go and holding on. Its almost like making a small coffin for an object but knowing that it is in the box in some strange way may bring peace of mind.

This piece was from last week.
I indiviually dipped each kept item into melted wax (instead of putting the item in a mold and pouring wax into it)
I then put all of the wax dipped items into this box labeled 'keep'

I've taken my material experiments into another direction: mixing polyurethane and latex rubber along with wood glue and salt with pantyhose, fabric and stretched canvas. I hope to soon combine all these material studies together into a much larger project.

Rubber "corset" mainly to abstract the actual form of the body, also to cause discomfort to the wearer.
I am working on another half to this so it will be more like a onepiece or a full outfit. This is a work in progress; I hope to have a video next week in which I will be wearing the rubber, skin-like outfit. Hopefully I will have an abstracted form of high heeled shoe also. My main focus is showing the discomfort that comes from wearing certain clothing that "improves" one's looks and this also helps unify what I am wearing with the physical movements/actions in the video and the general idea of discomfort.

Accurately measuring the McDonald's logo.

I am transposing measurements into a more useful data set that I plan on using as my work progresses. My interest lies in the power of brand/branding to demonstrate setting, architectural expectations, and color, not in the product.

This week I used the popped up sponges to fill in a space in the wall.

As my experiments with objects, force, and containment have been progressing I have begun to create backdrops/holding devices for the the actions to be recorded around. I am not sure what purpose these backdrops serve yet- they may be just aesthetic place holders or maybe they could be used to speak to the larger idea of forces, closed systems, and retainment.

This week I attempted to animate the still image that is being projected. I thought about using the computer but decided to stay with the paper, and cut out the shape of the tree and then filmed it, moving the branches ever so slightly. I want to see where this goes- whether the animated elements will become a way to destroy the image, or if it will be slow, subtle movements. These images are stills of the short film, vimeo was being finicky.
